THE VISAGE OF CAMEROON IN 2011, YEAR OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The Cameroon economy has experienced very sluggish growth for the past twenty five years despite the enormous human and material resources that it is endowed with. Production is failing to meet the pace of population growth. Some of the few industries existing are finding difficulties in satisfying local demands, and the response has been to intensify imports, a situation that cannot be sustainable in future. If the present economic system of management persists, Cameroon may likely experience an economic malaise in the near future.
Cameroon, generally referred to as Africa in Miniature is endowed with both human and natural resources. Significant deposits of mineral resources (petrol, gas, gold, bauxite) are available in its territory. Favorable agricultural conditions make Cameroon one of the best-endowed primary commodity economies in Africa. The labour force is fairly literate, competent and hardworking.
